Silviculture

Timber stand improvement or commonly known as silviculture tending is essential because the overall stocking of desirable commercial tree species in FMU 17A is relatively low, infestation of climbing bamboos is very high and, it enhance growth of future crop trees and bring them to harvestable size at the shortest time possible.

Timber stand improvement basically involves the elimination (cutting operations) of creeping bamboos and other woody vines which compete with the future crop trees for light and nutrients.

About 30,000 hectares (see map) of the total area of FMU 17A (50,410 hectares) requires silviculture tending. Click here for details.
